Starting in September of 2021, Fancy helped turn Georgia O’Keeffe’s celebrated floral paintings into animated landscapes of color and light for Illuminarium Experiences’ newest immersive experience. Lead by Director Randie Swanberg and VFX Supervisor Mario Caserta, the studio provided visual effects and design services for the project which is now playing in Atlanta and Las Vegas.

Based on Nicholas Callaway’s bestselling book, O’KEEFFE: One Hundred Flowers, transforms some of the artist’s most beautiful works into living paintings projected as high resolution animation onto three-dimensional theater walls and ceilings. The undulating imagery is synced with a powerful all-female soundtrack to create a multisensory experience that immerses audiences in the work of an artist regarded as the mother of American Modernism.

Fancy’s design team spent eight months digitizing and dissecting O’KEEFFE’s still paintings then weaving them into sequences of rare emotional power. Choreograph- ing the imagery was daunting. The 40-minute piece is composed of ten 4 to 5 minute chapters, each one devot- ed to a unique animation style. The canvas in this case is beyond enormous. The 25k+ square foot Illuminarium is split between two rooms. More than 46 Panasonic 4K laser projectors cover the walls and floors. The larger space has a pixel dimension of 30,910 x 23,984 which is subdivided into 12 sections or UVs which are projected by the overlapping array of Panasonics.
